Hybrid Cars: An Introduction

Hybrid cars are normal fuel efficient cars that have two motors, an electric motor and a gasoline powered motor. It also has a special system to capture braking energy which is stored in an onboard battery. These cars offer drivers an innovative, affordable and efficient option. After years of ‘on the road’ development, gas electric hybrid cars have become a practical choice for the car lovers.
There are two types of gasoline-electric hybrid cars: the parallel hybrid and the series hybrid. In the parallel hybrid car a gasoline engine and an electric engine works together to move the car forward while in the series hybrid car the either the gasoline engine provides the direct power or the electric motor powers the vehicles or charges batteries that will power the vehicle
There are other special features in the hybrid engines that help to increase the overall efficiency of the vehicle. These are written as follows:
- Smaller and more effective engine.
- Regenerative breaks: the electric motor that drives the cars can also slow it down. In this slow mode, the electric motor acts as a generator and charges the battery while the car is slowing down.
- Periodic engine shutoff: when the car stops in traffic, the engines are automatically shut down for a temporary period of time. When the gears are shifted it restarts on its own.
- Advanced Aerodynamics: to reduce the drag.
- Low Rolling Resistance (LLR) tires: narrow and stiffer tires have less drag.
- Lightweight Material: it increases the efficiency of the car.
